I used the symmetry assisted-draw feature in Procreate to speed up the creation of the base drawing and coloring. I worked symmetrically as much as possible until the blending at the end.

Iron Study

I completed a set of iron studies in my painterly 2d style in an effort to better understand the material. Studies were drawn in Procreate, using a grid to speed up the initial sketch, and in the case of the trivet, using symmetry to accelerate the drawing. Iron is interesting in that it changes quickly in color, a fact easily demonstrated by leaving a cast iron pan out to soak on the counter. (Please don't do that.) The end result is a piece of metal that can tell a story.
